Optus perks: Can you still get cheap movie tickets?

Perks are a real bonus with phone plans these days, especially if you can still find them.

Unfortunately, since April 2021, Optus stopped offering cheap Hoyts movie tickets after it wound down Optus Perks. As such, you can treat the information on this page as historical only, although it does look at some of the current perks Optus offers its customers, albeit not as part of any sort of rewards program.

What was Optus Perks?

Optus Perks was officially retired on April 30, 2020. Rather than a points-based system Optus aimed to provide "yes" moments to customers through discounted music experiences and family events.

One of the particular perks was cheaper Hoyts movie tickets. Customers could purchase standard tickets for $12.50 each and Hoyts LUX tickets for $27.

Most phone plans and NBN services offered by Optus entitled customers to access Optus Perks.

Everything you need to know about Telstra Plus

Optus may no longer have Optus Perks but the Telstra Plus rewards program is still running. Telstra customers can earn points to unlock rewards. Learn more about Telstra Plus before signing up.

Perks of signing up for an Optus plan

While "Optus Perks" may have ended, there are still plenty of perks to being an Optus customer.

Unlimited Data Days

Optus sells a $5 add-on called "Unlimited Data Day", which gives customers endless data for 24 hours with no speed restrictions. The add-on is available to all customers on postpaid plans, and prepaid customers on an Epic Data, Epic Value, Flex, or Flex 5G plan.

Customers on eligible Optus prepaid plans are eligible for "unlimited data weekends" provided they turn on AutoRecharge. As the name might suggest, no data usage between 12.01am on Saturday and 11.59pm counts toward a customer's normal data usage. The unlimited data kicks in each customer's local time zone, rather than at the same time for all Optus customers. A "fair go policy" still applies.

Some of the services you can save money on through this method include Netflix, Amazon Prime, Binge, BritBox, Hayu, and Paramount Plus.
