Lebara shortens its prepaid recharge length

Lebara will reduce its monthly prepaid plans from a 30-day to a 28-day renewal, beginning April 15. This effectively means the telco’s prepaid customers will pay for a minimum 13 recharge periods per year, instead of the current 12 (technically 12.2, but you get the drift). At the same time, prices for its existing plans will increase by 10 cents each.

Customers with active recharges will still get the full 30 days they’ve already paid for, but next recharge will serve up the new 28-day version. The changes will also apply to customers on the 10GB Extra Small plan, despite it no longer being available in-market.

Data inclusions for most of the telco's mobile plans will remain the same, although the $40 and $50 plans will increase from 50GB to 85GB, and from 100GB to 125GB, respectively. There will also be a new $35 plan, offering 55GB of data and 5G access capped at 150Mbps.

In our database of 27 mobile providers, Lebara will be the ninth telco to adopt a 28-day period for monthly prepaid plans. The others are: Vodafone, Optus, Telstra, Coles Mobile, Woolworths’ Everyday Mobile, Boost Mobile, Lyca Mobile, and OnePass Mobile.

Comparison confusion

When it comes to "monthly" prepaid plans, there are three basic recharge cycles you might encounter:

This range different billing cycles can make it difficult for consumers to compare the long-term cost of plans directly.
