TPG has a new look and some big discounts: Are they worth it?

TPG has debuted a new look today and is celebrating that glow up with some big NBN discounts.

The telco is discounting its NBN 100 plan by $30 per month for the first six months, before it returns to the full ongoing price of $94.99 per month.

It's also discounting its other NBN plans by $20 per month for the first six months. Here's a look at TPG's full NBN range:

TPG is also giving 100 of its existing customers a year's worth of free internet. You can enter on TPG's website. The draw closes May 28.

New customers signing up to a TPG NBN plan can take advantage of TPG's Price Beat Guarantee. Although there are a few catches to be aware of, first, only Telstra, Optus, Aussie Broadband, Superloop, Belong, Dodo, Exetel and Tangerine NBN plans are eligible.

The guarantee means that the total cost of the plan fees for your TPG plan for the first 12 months will be lower than the competitor's total plan fees for the first 12 months. If you spot a competitor's deal and want to redeem the offer, you'll need to call TPG or submit the online claim form (within 7 days).

TPG may make a price adjustment to your plan for 12 months or give you a plan credit, so your monthly price might not actually look the same as a competitor's, but you should pay less over the 12 months. However, if you change or cancel your plan in those 12 months, you'll forfeit your discount.

While these deals might sound tempting you can probably find the equivalent NBN plan for even less just by looking for cheaper NBN plan with a provider that's not eligible.

Let's look at NBN 100 as an example. If you take up TPG's NBN 100 plan with its discount, you'll pay $959.88 over the course of 12 months. The cheapest option you can price match with is Dodo. Over 12 months, you'd pay $886.80 for a saving of $73.08.

However, if you were to sign up with Southern Phone, which has its NBN 100 plan available discounted to $65 per month for the first 12 months, you'd pay $780, or $179.88 less than TPG's NBN 100 plan. As always, it's worth comparing all your options.

Here are the cheapest NBN plans in WhistleOut's database across different speed tiers (we've sorted these my average monthly price):
