The essentials
Plans and pricing

Exetel has just one plan, which is only available to HFC and FTTP homes, but it has excellent typical pricing. Read more

Internet speed

Exetel's solitary NBN 500 plan has excellent self-reported download speeds and great upload speeds, both of which are backed by ACCC data. Read more

Customer service

Exetel offers a strong range of customer support options, and its reputation among users ranges from good to great. Read more

Exetel has enjoyed a long-lived reputation of offering fast internet plans at competitive prices. In the past, that used to be a solid selection of NBN plans with a tendency for new-customer promotional pricing. Fast-forward to more recent times, and Exetel has shrunk its offering to a single NBN 500 plan. The catch is you need to be in an HFC or FTTP home to even connect to it, otherwise you'll be redirected to Exetel's parent company Superloop for more NBN plan options.

If you do live in an eligible home, though, you can expect excellent speeds. Don't just take Exetel's word for it, either. The telco's claim is backed up by ACCC data, and Exetel is consistently one of the fastest NBN providers in the ACCC's quarterly report. While its user reviews were once below average, that's changed in recent times, with a growing reputation according to multiple user-review outlets.

Exetel's plans and pricing

Exetel simplifies things by only offering a single NBN 500 plan, known as the "One Plan", which is only accessible if you're in a home connected via Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) or Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). Here's a quick breakdown of the plan:

  • No contracts with $0 setup fees (for standard connections)
  • NBN services are billed in advance
  • Hibernate (speed downgrade) and Warp (speed upgrade) fees for the current month are applied to your next bill
  • One Plan customers can cancel at any time, but prepaid fees are non-refundable (older Exetel customers need to give 30 days' notice)
  • Competitive typical monthly pricing
  • BYO networking device
  • Get discounted pricing for referring new Exetel customers

While Exetel doesn't necessarily offer discounted promotional pricing these days, it does have the cheapest full price NBN 500 plan in our database.

Exetel's One Plan doesn't have a contract, so you're free to leave at any time. That said, because plan fees are paid ahead of the month, you won't receive a refund if you leave before your billing month is over. Because of this, we advise planning the timing of your exit accordingly. With a "BYO modem" policy and $0 upfront fees, the only disclaimer is that NBN Co may charge a $300 new development fee if your home hasn't been connected to the NBN.

WhistleOut Tested

“I've been an Exetel NBN customer since August in 2025, and I've got very few complaints. The download speeds are consistently excellent, while you can get cheaper plans if you're happy to swap every six to 12 months, Exetel's NBN 500 plan is hard to beat, value-wise, if you want to stick with one provider for an extended period of time.

My only real complaint is the AI live chat isn't very helpful, but it is enough to bypass it and talk to a human. Fortunately I've only needed to use Exetel's tech support once, however."

Alex Choros, Managing Editor WhistleOut

Exetel's internet speed

Exetel has had a history of fast NBN plans, and that hasn't changed with its NBN 500 plan.

ACCC results

Exetel was one of NBN providers tracked in the ACCC's quarterly performance reports. While the final report was published in June this year, Exetel had a strong ranking, with its customers attaining 101.6% of their download speeds during busy hours. Exetel consistently performed well in past reports, too.

Typical evening speeds

Exetel self-reports 500Mbps download speeds for its solitary NBN 500 plan and upload speeds of 45Mbps.

Exetel's NBN plan features

Since it started offering a single NBN plan, Exetel has fewer perks than it used to. That said, there are still a few Exetel plan features worth discussing, such as its Hibernate and Warp Speed options.

Hibernate and Warp Speed

Exetel offers a couple of unique features to its customers. Hibernate lets users slow their connection to download speeds of 12Mbps and upload speeds of 1Mbps, but save $1 per day. This feature is handy if you're away from home for an extended period.

Warp Speed is the opposite of Hibernate in terms of speed. For $1 per day, Exetel One Plan users can up their connection speed to an NBN 1000 plan, with 860Mbps typical evening downloads and 85Mbps uploads.

Both Hibernate and Warp Speed can be toggled on or off via the Exetel companion app.

Referral discounts

If you a refer a friend to Exetel, you and your friend will both save $1 per month on your bill. This discount lasts for as long as you're both with Exetel. If you refer 80 friends, you can even cut your bill to $0 per month.

Internet credentials not required

Newer Exetel customers won't need internet credentials to get online. Either use the Internet Protocol over Ethernet (IPoE) or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) settings on your networking gear to get online without a username and password.

CGNAT opt-out

Customers can contact Exetel support via online chat to opt-out from CGNAT. It is free to opt out.

Exetel's customer service

Because customer service interactions can vary person to person, we prefer to look at quantitative channels. Exetel has a strong number of support pathways, and its user reviews have improved.

CHOICE Telco Satisfaction rating

Fastest NBN provider

According to 2026 data collected by consumer advocacy organisation CHOICE, Exetel was ranked the second fastest NBN provider behind its parent company (and internet provider) Superloop. Superloop scored a 97% rating for speed, with Exetel, Dodo, and iPrimus following with 96%.

  1. Superloop: 97%
  2. Exetel, Dodo, and iPrimus: 96%
  3. Optus: 95%
  4. Telstra and TPG: 94%
  5. iiNet: 93%
  6. Aussie Broadband: 91%

Product Review star rating

Score: 4.5 stars

When we checked in with Exetel's Product Review user ratings in the middle of 2025, it was sitting on 2.6 stars out of 5 from over 1,900 user reviews. In October 2026, that rating had improved to 4.5 from over 5,000 user reviews. For comparison, that's up there with the best Product Review scores of the NBN providers we track, such as Swoop, Moose, SpinTel, and Aussie Broadband.

In terms of Exetel's specific Product Review breakdown, users rated Exetel 3.7 for value (2,500 ratings) and 3.8 for customer service (2,700 ratings). It's worth flagging that Exetel has a similar user score on Trustpilot: 4.1 out of 5 stars from over 9,900 ratings. Exetel also has a slightly higher score than Product Review from Google user reviews, with a 3.6-star rating from 1,200 ratings.

Complaints

According to ACMA, Exetel had 32 complaints per 10,000 NBN services in the second quarter of 2026. This is just over half the industry average, which is 58 complaints per 10,000 NBN services, and is a decease from the previous year, where Exetel had 57 complaints per 10,000 NBN services.
