- Cheap introductory pricing
- Fast speeds, backed by ACCC data
- A plan speed for every internet user
New TPG customers will get a good deal, but you'll want to re-evaluate your options after the first six months when typical pricing kicks in. Read more
Fast self-reported download and upload speeds are backed by quarterly ACCC data, which underscores overprovisioned download speeds. Read more
An okay number of support pathways with 24/7 phone support is undermined by low reported customer satisfaction from Product Review. Read more
If search patterns in Australia are any indication, the three household NBN providers are Telstra, Optus, and TPG. And that's understandable, when TPG internet made a name for itself in the ADSL days by offering no-frills plans at competitive prices. Fast-forward to the age of NBN, and TPG plans aren't necessarily bigger on plan features, but its typical pricing isn't as competitive as it once was.
While typical pricing is often middling, TPG does typically offer competitive introductory pricing for new customers. Better yet, TPG offers nearly every major speed tier, meaning you can pick whichever one is right for your home's internet needs.
Those plans are fast, too, with self-reported speeds backed by quarterly ACCC data. That said, there are more complaints this year according to the TIO, plus Product Review scores are quite low from thousands of user reviews.
TPG's plans and pricing
TPG has a reputation for offering six-month discounts for new customers. When TPG NBN plan prices revert to typical fees, though, you may be better off looking elsewhere as prices range from middling to expensive. Here's a snapshot of TPG's charging practices:
- No contracts with $0 setup fees (for standard connections)
- 30 days' notice required for cancelling an NBN plan
- Competitive introductory discounts
- Competitive typical monthly pricing
- BYO device; alternatively, add a TP-Link VX420-G2v modem router
- PAYG home phone calls included, or add a call pack for a monthly fee
New TPG Telecom customers benefit from a long trend of discounted introductory pricing, which typically lasts for six months. While this helps bring down first-year fees, TPG's typical plan pricing isn't overly competitive. At best, it's around the middle of the pack for comparable plans from our database; at worst, it's one of the priciest picks (like with its entry-level NBN 12 plan).
All of TPG's NBN plans are non-contract offerings. The only extra costs are optional: either a flat fee for a preconfigured modem-router or monthly call packs for a home phone service. If you want to shift to another provider, TPG requires 30 days' notice, which isn't the case with all of the providers we track in our database.
Here's a list of TPG's fixed-line NBN plans, ranked in terms of introductory price:

TPG's internet speed
All of TPG's self-reported typical evening speeds are great, though download speeds are noticeably below max attainable speeds for its NBN 750 and NBN 1000 plans.
ACCC results
TPG is one of the providers tracked in the ACCC's performance report, and its download speeds improved between the June 2025 and September 2025 reports. Of the 10 providers tracked, TPG ranked third for download speeds during busy hours (103%), behind Telstra and Exetel. It also ranked fourth for download speeds during the busiest hour (101%), behind Telstra, Exetel, and Dodo/iPrimus.
For busy-hour upload speeds, TPG was one of the slowest at 87.9%. That said, Superloop recorded the fastest speeds at 92.6%, which is only roughly 5% better than TPG. Providers are more likely to overprovision download speed, which is why you see percentages over 100%, while upload speeds aren't considered as important.
Typical evening speeds
TPG has mostly great self-reported typical evening speeds for its NBN plans. The NBN 12, NBN 25, NBN 50, and NBN 500 plans all reportedly offer max attainable download speeds. While slower than Swoop, amaysim, and MATE, TPG still advertises respectable download speeds for its NBN 750 plan. Of the providers in our database that self-report download speeds for their NBN 1000 plans, TPG is one of the slowest, but that's still very fast at 800Mbps.
TPG's self-reported upload speeds are respectable and basically in line with the ACCC upload figures. The main disclaimer is for those looking at TPG's NBN 25 plan, which is built on the older 25/5Mbps logic rather than the more popular 25/10Mbps framework. If you want an NBN 25 plan, there are cheaper options in our database with faster upload speeds.
TPG's NBN plan features
Since its inception, TPG has had a reputation as a no-frills internet provider, and that's mostly unchanged for its NBN plans. If you want a plan with perks, consider Aussie Broadband, iiNet, or Superloop. But TPG still offers some decent features, including optional modem and home phone line add-ons, plus it doesn't use CGNAT for its connections.
Mobile and internet bundling
If you bundle a TPG internet plan with a TPG mobile plan, you can save $5 on your monthly bill.
Home phone line
All TPG NBN plans come with a home phone service, but it's PAYG by default. For $5 a month, you can add unlimited calls to Aussie home phones and mobiles. For $10 a month, you can add 100 international minutes as well. And for $15 a month, you get unlimited national calls to mobiles and home phones, plus international calls to 23 destinations.
NBN modem-router
TPG lets you BYO NBN-compatible modem if you want to save money. Alternatively, pay a flat fee (with $0 postage) to buy a preconfigured TP-Link VX420-G2v, which we found to be a decent WiFi 6 modem-router. Note that new TPG customers will be able to purchase the Arcadyan HWG2025 WiFi 7 modem-router in 2026.
Internet credentials required
TPG uses the Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) to get its customers online, which means you need to enter a username and password into your router, modem-router, or mesh WiFi system. If you buy the optional TPG modem-router, it should arrive preconfigured with your credentials.
CGNAT opt-out
While other internet providers use CGNAT – a network feature that may cause issues for those looking to host servers – TPG reportedly doesn't use it at all, so you shouldn't have any issues hosting servers.
TPG's WhistleOut Awards
TPG took out several gold and silver medals in our WhistleOut Awards 2025, but none of those were related to its NBN plans.
TPG's customer service
We know that customer service interactions can differ between individuals and providers, so we prefer to look at other metrics. While TPG has a decent number of support pathways, user reviews are quite low from Product Review.

WhistleOut customer satisfaction survey
Score: 4.16/5
We ran a WhistleOut customer satisfaction survey in 2025, and TPG scored 4.16 out of 5 for overall satisfaction, behind Telstra, Superloop, Dodo, Origin Broadband, and Aussie Broadband. Survey participants rated TPG 3.82 for speed, 3.86 for reliability, 3.66 for price, and 3.58 for customer service.
CHOICE Telco Satisfaction rating
Score: 76% (just above average)
According to data collected by consumer advocacy organisation CHOICE, TPG was just above the average customer satisfaction score of 74%. For context, Optus had the lowest reported customer satisfaction at 69%, and Aussie Broadband had the best at 85%.
For connection speed, 72% reported being satisfied, just below the 73% average. Aussie Broadband customers were most satisfied with their connection speed at 81%. In terms of overall value, 77% of TPG customers thought they were getting good value, just below the 76% average. Aussie took out the top spot again with 82%. And for reliability, 74% of surveyed TPG customers felt their connection was reliable, again, just below the 75% average. Aussie was up top again with an 83% rating.
TIO complaints
Increased vs last year
It's worth flagging that the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) doesn't take market share into account, which may skew the number of complaints if there are new customers. That said, it's still a handy external metric for gauging customer satisfaction.
In the TIO report for Financial Year 2025, TPG customer complaints went up by 25%. For FY 24, the TIO recorded 2,002 TPG customer complaints. In FY 25, that number was up to 2,662. While we couldn't find any TPG data on subscriber changers, ACCC market share data suggests TPG has around 1.8 million NBN customers in 2024 and 2025. That uptick in customer complaints can't then be mitigated by an increase in subscribers.
See the full TIO complaints report here for further details.
Product Review star rating
Score: 1.8 stars
Being a household name isn't necessarily a boon when it comes to user reviews. Just ask Telstra (1.7), Optus (1.5), or TPG, which has a 1.8 out of 5 overall rating on Product Review after 5,000+ user reviews. In terms of the specifics, users rated TPG 2.1 for value (2,700 ratings), 1.9 for transparency (2,500 ratings), and 1.9 for customer service (2,700 ratings).
