Optus has joined the likes of Superloop and Aussie Broadband in offering customers NBN plans with speeds faster than 100Mbps. Optus customers can now pick from NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans, in addition to NBN 50 and NBN 100 plans.
Optus' NBN 1000 is par the course for the speed tier, billed at $150 per month with unlimited data and typical evening speeds of 250Mbps. Aussie Broadband and Superloop both charge $149 for NBN 1000 plans and report the same evening speed. Superloop's NBN 1000 plan has a 3TB data limit however. If you exceed this, you'll get capped at speeds of 100Mbps. Kogan has the cheapest NBN 1000 plan thanks to a promotional discount that nets you a $14 per month discount for your first six months. At full price, you're looking at $148.90 per month, which is in-line with the rest of the market.

Both plans are contract-free, but you'll have to pay out a pro-rated modem fee if you leave within your first 36 months. The modem fee is equivalent to $7 multiplied by the number of months remaining in your three-year term. Optus also charges a $99 setup fee.
NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans are only available to customers connecting to the NBN via FTTP and HFC. All FTTP customers can get either plan, but only 70% of HFC customers can get NBN 250 speeds, and only 7% can get NBN 1000. Optus' NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans will only appear on the telco's website to customers who enter an address that supports these kind of connection speeds.
NBN Co intends to upgrade the HFC portion of the network to ensure all customers can sign-up for an NBN 250 plan by June 2021.
